The EHF European League was established in 1982 as the IHF Cup, initially offering both men and women the chance to compete in an international handball competition. In 1993, the European Handball Federation (EHF) took over its organization, renaming it the EHF Cup. Since the 2012/13 season, it has been merged with the Cup Winners' Cup, and in 2020, it was renamed the EHF European League.
The competition format has been adjusted several times, most recently in 2023/24, to make it more exciting and modern. Today, it includes qualification rounds, group stages, and play-offs, with the best teams competing in the Final Four for the title. The European League remains an important part of European handball and a platform for emerging clubs.
EHF European League 2034/24
The EHF European League 2023/24 was an exciting competition, dominated by German teams. In the group stage and play-offs, 37 teams fought for the title, with THW Kiel showcasing their quality. Handewitt faced Füchse Berlin, with Flensburg winning the title with a 36:31 victory.
In the small final, Rhein-Neckar Löwen triumphed 32:31 over Dinamo Bucharest to secure third place. The 2023/24 season highlighted the strength of German handball clubs and provided fans with high-quality, thrilling matches until the final day.
