The last encounter

HSV Hamburg started the game against Rhein-Neckar Löwen strongly and took an early 5:3 lead. The guests extended their lead to four goals by the middle of the first period. Jogi Bitter in goal for the Hanseaten held strong during this phase, while the Lions made many technical errors. After a timeout and a goal from David Moré, the Mannheim team caught up and equalized shortly before the break.

In the second half, Joel Birlehm, who was in goal for the Lions, dropped off and Hamburg took advantage of this to pull away again. Casper Mortensen and Zoran Ilic contributed significantly to the lead. Despite a late resurgence from David Späth and the return of Tobias Reichmann, Hamburg was able to hold on to the lead. Two quick goals from Ilic shortly before the end secured the 36:34 victory for HSV.
