Flensburg took the lead through Johan Hansen and benefited from the interplay between Simon Pytlick and Johannes Golla, while Dani Baijens led the HSV offensive. Despite Torsten Jansen's attempt to prevent the guests from playing at speed, Flensburg quickly managed to take a 6:7 lead.

HSV could not make up the deficit after the 4:6 and Flensburg pulled away to 11:18 by halftime. Hamburg was slow to get into the game in the second half. Flensburg defended consistently and kept the lead constant. Despite attempts to make tactical changes such as switching to a 5:1 defense, HSV could not reduce the deficit. In the end, Flensburg won clearly with 30:41, also thanks to a strong performance from Pytlick and further counterattacks.
